French You-Don’t-Dip Pizza!

This was one of the items I made for Super Bowl Sunday! And the only one that I manage to write down a recipe for! We had a great time and nobody went home hungry.   This pizza turned out great!  Much better than the picture! Still working on getting a better camera! Enjoy!

(You want to know a secret? Shhh! This recipe was born because I had made French Dip sandwiches the night before and had leftovers.  I did however, write the recipe as though I was making it from scratch so it would be easier to follow.  The important thing to remember about leftovers is, that it doesn’t seem like your eating the same thing night after night, if you change it up.  I do this all the time, otherwise we would be wasting food on a daily basis! And I must admit, that even I get tired of eating the same thing for every meal for a few days.)

Ingredients

  • 1 Store bought pizza crust Thin to thick, just watch cooking times.
  • 2 tbsp olive oil extra virgin
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 medium yellow onion
  • 2 lbs thin sliced roast beef Deli meat is what I used.
  • 1 can beef consomme
  • 2 cups mozzerella cheese shredded
  • 1 large tomato
  • 1 can sliced olives small can

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to temperature required on your pizza crust, I set mine for 425.  Lay out your pizza crust and brush with 1 tbsp olive oil and sprinkle with Italian seasoning.  Let your crust sit aside and soak up the oil as you prep the rest of the ingredients.

  2. Preheat a large skillet on your stovetop to about medium heat. Add the remaining tbsp. of olive oil.  Slice your onion and add to pan, stir occasionally.  While the onion is cooking rough chop your roast beef.  Sauté the onion for about 2 minutes and then add the roast beef to the pan.  Stir onion and roast beef for a minute before adding can of beef consumme.  Bring to a simmer and cook for ten minutes, or until juice is cut by half. Place beef and onion mixture into strainer to get rid of excess liquid.

  3. Sprinkle one cup of your mozzarella cheese onto your pizza crust.  Using tongs or a fork evenly spread roast beef and onion mixture on top of cheese.  Slice tomato and place on top of roast beef and onions.  Sprinkle on the other cup of mozzarella.  Add sliced olives to the top.  Place pizza directly on oven rack for a crispy crust, or use a sheet pan for a softer crust.  Remove from oven when cheese is evenly melted and the edges of the crust are beginning to brown.  This should take about 10-15 minutes depending on the thickness of pizza crust.

Recipe Notes

Cooking times will vary dependent upon the thickness of your store bought pizza crust.  Follow package instructions to ensure your crust comes out perfect!  Also, feel free to make your own crust-bake it first.

French Dips don't usually contain tomato or black olives.  I had them. I like them. I used them. If you have extra ingredients to throw on, please do.  Make it your own.  Just be aware that adding other ingredients may increase cooking time.
